Sony unveils LYTIA 720 camera sensor with 50MP resolution

Sony announced the LYTIA 720 camera sensor, which features a resolution of approximately 50MP. The 1/1.56-inch stacked CMOS image sensor utilizes individual pixels measuring 1.0μm.
Video capabilities include 4K HDR recording at 60 frames per second with all-pixel autofocus support. Sony claims the LYTIA 720 can reduce random image noise by around 50% when compared to the LYTIA 700.
Hybrid Frame-HDR technology allows the sensor to deliver a dynamic range of up to 100dB. Mass-production shipments of the sensor are scheduled to begin in early November 2026.
The company has not disclosed which smartphone manufacturers will adopt the LYTIA 720.
