About Sun News

Sun News is Pakistan's first Shahmukhi Punjabi satellite news channel, based in Lahore. It brings the news of Pakistan and the world to Punjabi speakers in their own language and their own script.

When did Sun News launch?

Sun News launched in Lahore on 1 May 2025 as a satellite television channel licensed by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).

Who founded Sun News?

Sun News was founded by Mian Muhammad Fiyyaz. The channel is operated by Hamza Sadiq News Network (Pvt) Ltd, part of the Sadiq Group of Industries.

What languages does Sun News use?

The channel broadcasts in Punjabi, written in the Shahmukhi script. Our website publishes in Punjabi, Urdu and English, so the same reporting reaches every reader in Pakistan and the Punjabi-speaking diaspora abroad.

Why Punjabi?

Punjabi is the mother tongue of more Pakistanis than any other language, about 89 million people at the 2023 census, and well over 150 million speakers worldwide. Yet the news has mostly reached them in a language that is not their own.

Every civilisation that rose fast rose in its own language: China in Chinese, the United States in English, Russia in Russian, the Gulf in Arabic. A language barrier does not filter talent, it hides it. Punjabi is not a lower-status language; it is our greatest strength. Sun News works towards a Punjab whose talent learns, argues and builds in Punjabi, with Shahmukhi a living language of news, science and business.

Who works with Sun News on this mission?

The Punjabi poet, writer and researcher Dr Ahsan Bajwa, compiler of the five-volume proverb collection Akhan Lok Seyanay, works with Sun News to preserve Punjabi and help it grow, and to connect a new generation with the richness of its Punjabi heritage.
