The Capital Development Authority (CDA) announced on Sunday that construction of the Margalla Avenue extension from N-5 to M-1 and the Sangjani Interchange project has reached 35 per cent completion. Work on the project is currently continuing around the clock.
During a site visit on November 8, CDA Chairman and Islamabad Chief Commissioner Sohail Ashraf reviewed the construction progress. He directed the relevant departments to remove bottlenecks to ensure the project is finished within the stipulated timeframe.
Officials informed the chairman that work is progressing on the widening and extension of the main road, which covers approximately 2.7 kilometres, alongside the construction of a service road. Regarding specific milestones, officials stated that structural work on the underpass at Sangjani Interchange is complete, and piling for abutments on both sides of the N-5 Interchange Bridge has also been finished.
Additionally, four of the project’s five culverts are completed, with work continuing on the final one. Construction of loops and ramps is also ongoing.
Sohail Ashraf expressed satisfaction with the current pace of work. He directed officials to ensure that construction meets the required standards of speed, quality and transparency.
Ashraf stated that the project will improve access to Islamabad for commuters traveling from within and outside the capital, specifically those arriving from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He added that the road link will facilitate travelers from Abbottabad, Mansehra and other adjoining areas, while also providing improved connectivity to Islamabad International Airport.
Senior CDA officials accompanied the chairman during the inspection.
