Paramount announced on Friday that Danny McBride’s reimagining of the G.I. Joe franchise, starring Bradley Cooper, is scheduled for a wide theatrical release on Oct. 20, 2028. McBride will direct the film based on a screenplay he co-wrote with Jeff Fradley and John Carcieri. Cooper is slated to portray Duke, a prominent character from the franchise that originated as a Hasbro toy line and expanded into comics, animation, and three live-action films. The studio is currently keeping further plot details secret. The project is produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, and Zev Foreman for Hasbro Entertainment.

In a separate scheduling update, Paramount and the newly-renamed Blumhouse Atomic revealed that the next Paranormal Activity movie will now debut in the Halloween corridor on Oct. 22, 2027, instead of launching in the summer. The film, directed by Ian Tuason, was previously dated for May 21. The new installment features Chase Yi, Sonia Mena, and Maya Da Costa. Oren Peli, who created the original Paranormal Activity, returns to produce for Solana Films. James Wan and Jason Blum are producing for Blumhouse Atomic, while Michael Clear and Judson Scott serve as executive producers for Blumhouse Atomic, with Alayna Glasthal overseeing the project for the company. Executive producers also include Steven Schneider (for Room 101, Inc.), Dan Slater, and Cody Calahan.

The original Paranormal Activity grossed nearly $194 million worldwide, becoming one of the most profitable films in cinema history. The found-footage series has since reached seven installments with global earnings exceeding $900 million.

These dating announcements occur as Skydance, led by David Ellison, works to maximize its large IP library following the consolidation of Paramount and Warner Bros. The mega-studio recently announced a new Transformers project with Steven Spielberg attached to produce. Additionally, Paramount is developing sequels for Top Gun, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Star Trek. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. is preparing an Ocean’s 11 prequel directed by Cooper (who co-stars with producer Margot Robbie), more Lord of the Rings movies, and the Weapons sequel Gladys, as the combined studio aims to release 30 movies annually.
