Adam Driver will not return for the upcoming reboot of the iconic series "Girls." The actor addressed the news during a recent interview with Cinema Blend while discussing his role in James Gray’s new film "Paper Tiger." When asked if he would be returning for the revival, Driver stated, "No, but I wish them the best of luck."
The news of the new "Girls" series was first reported in mid-October. Creator and star Lena Dunham is scheduled to return as Hannah Horvath. She will be joined by co-stars Allison Williams as Marnie Michaels, Jemima Kirke as Jessa Johansson, and Zosia Mamet as Shoshanna Shapiro. Andrew Rannells is also slated to return as Elijah Krantz. The HBO series is planned as a limited five-episode run, with production scheduled to begin in 2027.
Driver experienced a major breakout following his portrayal of Hannah’s boyfriend on the original "Girls." Since then, his career has included roles as Kylo Ren in three "Star Wars" movies, and appearances in "Marriage Story" and "The Meyerowitz Stories" for Noah Baumbach. He has also worked with Ridley Scott in "The Last Duel" and "House of Gucci," and with Michael Mann in "Ferrari." Additionally, Driver appeared in "Misty Green" this year and has collaborated with director Jim Jarmusch on "Paterson," "The Dead Don’t Die," and "Father Mother Sister Brother."
In her recent memoir "Famesick," Dunham described a tumultuous relationship with Driver. She wrote that "He could be short-tempered and verbally aggressive, condescending and physically imposing. He could also be protective, loving even." Dunham also recalled that after the final episode of the original "Girls" wrapped, Driver told her, "I hope you know I’ll always love you" before he said goodbye.
