More than 28 per cent of the Islamabad Expressway Service Road (East) project has been completed, according to the Capital Development Authority (CDA). The project involves constructing a dual carriageway from Faizabad to Gulberg to improve traffic flow along the busy Islamabad Expressway.
The 9.3-kilometre-long project is designed to feature a dual carriageway with three lanes on each side. The CDA stated that excavation, sub-grade, and sub-base work is currently underway at various sections of the road. Additionally, work is progressing on drainage infrastructure and culverts for bridges. The CDA also reported that all 153 piles for a key underpass component have been completed.
In a separate enforcement drive, the CDA targeted illegal constructions, encroachments, unauthorized commercial activities, and violations of building regulations along the service road. During this operation, the authority reported that 58 buildings were sealed and 124 structures located between Sohan and Khanna Bridge were demolished.
CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Sohail Ashraf directed relevant departments to ensure uniform enforcement of land-use regulations, building by-laws, and mandatory fire safety requirements. Ashraf also instructed officials to maintain transparency and construction quality while accelerating work on all project sections.
The chairman stated that completing the service road would help reduce traffic pressure on the Islamabad Expressway, save commuters’ travel time and fuel, and improve connectivity for residents of adjoining areas.
