Tiger Brokers is looking to capitalize on business opportunities in Hong Kong to counter the impact of Beijing’s regulatory crackdown on unauthorized cross-border stock trading. John Zeng, Group CFO and CEO of Tiger Brokers (Hong Kong), stated that user growth is currently being driven primarily by local Hong Kong clients, noting that overall client growth remains very strong.

Zeng emphasized that the company will "certainly fully comply with regulatory requirements in acquiring new clients." This shift comes as the firm, which is backed by Xiaomi, reported record-breaking figures for new funded accounts in Hong Kong for both the quarter and the first nine months of the year. According to Zeng, the nine-month total has already exceeded the full-year figure for 2025.

The brokerage reported that retail client assets in Hong Kong nearly doubled year on year in the three months ending in September, representing a rise of more than 40 per cent from the previous quarter. Zeng noted that the average first deposit from Hong Kong users was approximately US$30,000, which is the highest among the group's licensed markets. He expressed firm belief in the growth potential of Hong Kong, stating the company is confident its products and services will attract more local investors.

The company's strategy follows a May 22 action by the China Securities Regulatory Commission, which penalized Tiger Brokers, Futu Securities International, and Longbridge Securities for providing mainland Chinese investors access to overseas stocks without licenses. Tiger Brokers was ordered to pay 410 million yuan (US$61 million) in fines, and its illegal gains were confiscated. Since June 12, mainland accounts have been prohibited from making new purchases or deposits.

To support its expansion, UP Fintech Holding, the parent company of Tiger Brokers, announced earlier this year a plan to invest US$100 million in Hong Kong over a period of one to two years. Zeng indicated that the firm could increase this amount if growth momentum continues, though no specific figure has been set and "adjustments will be made dynamically."
