British ceramic craftsmanship is on display at the ninth China International Import Expo in Shanghai, which runs from November 5-10, 2026. The exhibition features teacups decorated with hand-painted scenes and gold accents, representing over 200 years of British ceramic history.
The items on display reflect a historical connection to China. According to CGTN, Chinese tea arrived in Britain during the 17th century, and imported Chinese porcelain provided British potters with new design ideas. These influences eventually contributed to the establishment of afternoon tea as a British ritual by the 19th century.
Visitors at the expo can view the modern results of that early inspiration. The display includes various items such as an Aynsley teapot, cup, and saucer featuring floral patterns and gold trim, as well as a milk jug decorated with pink roses and a gold rim.
