Pakistan Railways has established a target to operate 14 freight trains by January. This move comes in response to increasing demand from the business community as the organization seeks to improve its financial position and increase revenue.

The decision was reached during a meeting at the Railways Headquarters chaired by Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi. During this session, officials also approved the creation of a dry port in Khanewal to bolster freight operations and generate extra revenue.

To address safety concerns, officials decided to request an investigation by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) into train examiners regarding accidents caused by mechanical faults. Additionally, five new weighbridges are scheduled to be installed across the country by December 31 to stop overloading.

Minister Abbasi directed that operational meetings be moved from the Railways Headquarters to the divisional level to enhance performance and efficiency. Other measures discussed included the phasing out of DVM and DVS coaches from the railway system and the transition of sleeper factories to double shifts to boost production.
