The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has begun construction on a new State Lounge at Islamabad International Airport. The project is being developed in preparation for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, which is scheduled to take place in August 2027.
Defence Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the facility. The event was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and the PAA. According to the PAA, the new lounge is intended to enhance hospitality and protocol arrangements for international delegations, foreign dignitaries, and visiting heads of state attending the summit.
In a separate development, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has initiated a deep-cleaning exercise for its entire aircraft fleet. The airline conducted special inspections of cabins in Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore to boost maintenance and cleanliness standards.
PIA Chief Executive Officer Adrian Hamilton-Manns stated that the airline will continue its efforts to improve service quality and keep aircraft in excellent condition. To recognize the initiative, PIA awarded cash prizes, certificates, and shields to employees who performed well during the cleaning exercise.
