Haroon Janjua won the Elizabeth Neuffer Memorial Prize at the 2026 United Nations Correspondents Association (UNCA) Awards.

The journalist received the honour for his report for Deutsche Welle (DW) titled “Pakistan: Lives of exiled Afghans crushed in Taliban row.” Reporting from Chaman in southwestern Pakistan, Janjua documented women facing uncertainty regarding their rights and future under Taliban rule.

His work also captured children with disrupted educations and families preparing to depart their homes with only a few belongings. Janjua's journalism has been featured in outlets including The New York Times, The Guardian, Fox News, BBC World Service, and the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP).

In 2015, the reporter earned the Global Media Award from The Population Institute, the IE Business School Prize for Asian economy reporting, and a UNCA Award. He was further recognised with a South Asian Journalists Association fellowship in 2017 and a Pulitzer Center grant in 2021.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres will serve as the chief guest at the 2026 UNCA Awards Gala in New York this December.
