Punjab Inspector General of Police Abdul Kareem directed regional and district police officers to intensify operations against crime hotspots on 30 October.
The Inspector General ordered Regional Police Officers and District Police Officers to identify specific areas of concern and implement immediate measures to stop serious offences. Specific targets for these measures include robbery, robbery-murder, organised crime, assault, and sexual violence against women and children.
Kareem also instructed officers to accelerate the apprehension of proclaimed offenders wanted in robbery and robbery-murder cases. To ensure the effective prosecution of suspects involved in serious crimes, the Inspector General told officers to improve the rate of challan submissions.
Officers were further told to conduct daily follow-ups on pending forensic reports in criminal cases, with a particular focus on cases involving sexual violence against women and children. A spokesperson said Kareem chaired a follow-up meeting on crime control at the Central Police Office.
The meeting was attended by the Additional Inspector General of Investigation Punjab, the Additional Inspector General of Operations Punjab, the DIG Investigation Punjab, the AIG Operations, and the AIG Administration and Security. Participating through a video link were the CCPO Lahore, the Additional Inspector General of South Punjab, all RPOs, CPOs, and DPOs, along with the DIG Operations and DIG Investigation Lahore.
Kareem stated that the provincial crime situation is being reviewed weekly to strengthen prevention and protect the lives and property of citizens on the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The DIG Investigation Punjab claimed that incidents of heinous crime across the province declined significantly during the current week compared to the previous week.
