Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi convened a meeting on 30 October to oversee the protection and upgrading of Peshawar’s tourist spots and historical legacy.

Kundi stated that maintaining the rich historical heritage of Peshawar is vital for promoting tourism and reinforcing the cultural identity of the city. The Governor directed relevant authorities to implement practical measures for the promotion and restoration of historical sites. Adviser for Planning and Development Usman Saifullah Khan, Secretary Tourism Sadat Hassan, and other officials attended the session.

Participants received a detailed briefing regarding the cultural significance of Peshawar, the conservation of heritage sites, night tourism, and various ongoing or proposed development projects. Kundi described Peshawar as a living symbol of history, civilisation, and culture spanning several centuries. He emphasised the necessity of projecting the city's historical identity to draw in both foreign and domestic tourists.

Kundi called for the operation of special tourist buses to help people visit the city's historical landmarks. Officials were instructed to install large information boards near the motorway toll plaza to highlight the cultural heritage and historical sites of Peshawar.

Kundi suggested that cultural events should be held regularly to promote and preserve the literary heritage, arts, and traditions of Peshawar. The Governor also stated that restoration work on the ancestral houses of legendary film icons Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar should commence as soon as possible.

Kundi noted that improving tourism facilities alongside the restoration of heritage sites would further strengthen the cultural identity of Peshawar.
