Turkish Football Federation suspends 448 club officials over betting irregularities
The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) provisionally suspended 448 current and former club officials. The suspension stems from allegations that the officials placed bets while holding positions within the federation over the last five years.
Following the action, all 448 suspended officials were referred to the federation’s disciplinary committee. Media reports indicate that the number of suspended officials totals 171 individuals.
Trabzonspor President Ertugrul Dogan addressed the situation, stating, “These companies sponsored clubs and held launch events. Nobody thought this would cause problems… if we made a mistake, we apologise, but we have done nothing wrong”. Separately, the TFF also suspended approximately 149 referees and 1,024 players.
Furthermore, Turkish authorities detained the head and six members of the main soccer referee board.
