Khyber Pakhtunkhwa directs institutions to ensure access for persons with disabilities

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government issued a directive instructing both public and private institutions to guarantee safe, convenient, and barrier-free access to buildings and necessary services for persons with disabilities. The Department of Social Welfare, Special Education and Women Empowerment issued this directive.
All administrative secretaries, commissioners, and deputy commissioners received instructions to ensure government offices, public areas, and other vital facilities offer independent access to persons with disabilities. Institutions must install accessible ramps and appropriate slopes, provide handrails, and design entrances and doors to facilitate wheelchair users.
Malik Liaqat Ali Khan stated that persons with disabilities form a vital segment of society, and that equal, safe, and dignified access to public facilities is crucial for fostering their independence and inclusion.
