Mega Motor Company (MMC) has selected 10 women to participate in the ‘She Runs’ programme, an initiative designed to increase female involvement in long-distance running. The programme was launched as part of MMC’s sponsorship of the BYD Karachi Marathon, which is scheduled for January 3, 2027.
The initiative received over 500 applications from women interested in accessing professional coaching and structured training. From this pool, 50 candidates were shortlisted to attend a final selection event held at Ramada Creek in Karachi. During this event, the candidates underwent a 10-kilometre endurance run, fitness assessments, medical evaluations, interviews, and warm-up and cool-down drills.
The selection and training process is being managed by Uzma Abid, a marathon runner and running coach associated with UESCA and MatrixFit, and Shah Faisal Khan, Co-Founder of Platinum Fitness and a strength and conditioning coach who specialises in marathon performance and rehabilitation. The 10 selected participants will begin a 10-week structured training programme to build endurance and prepare for the 2027 race.
Anum Abdullah, Senior General Manager – HR, Admin & CSR at Mega Motor Company, stated that Pakistan has no shortage of women with the ambition and determination to pursue sport, but noted that access to structured training and support remains a challenge. She added that the overwhelming response to ‘She Runs’ highlights the interest and potential that exists, and that the company's aim is to create opportunities for women to turn that ambition into achievement while encouraging more women to take up running as a sport.
MMC stated that through ‘She Runs’ and its association with the BYD Karachi Marathon 2027, the company is extending its commitment to movement beyond mobility to support healthier lifestyles and opportunities for emerging athletic talent in Pakistan.
