Kavem Hodge scored an unbeaten 140 to push the West Indies' lead to 315 on Sunday, the fourth day of the second Test against Bangladesh in Sylhet. The West Indies reached 345-3 in their second innings when play was halted due to bad light. Hodge struck 17 fours and a six off 189 balls to record his third Test century and surpass his previous highest score. He was joined by Amir Jangoo, who remained unbeaten on 20.
The West Indies began the day at 7-0, trailing by 23 runs. Brandon King and Joshua Da Silva opened the scoring with an 85-run partnership before Taijul Islam dismissed Da Silva lbw for 36. King continued his innings and was dropped by Towhid Hridoy on 56 off Taijul before Mehidy Hasan Miraz eventually dismissed him for 61 off 84 balls, caught by Najmul Hossain Shanto at first slip.
At lunch, the West Indies were 128-2 with a 98-run lead. Hodge reached his half-century off 78 balls, while debutant Kevin Wickham required 68 deliveries to reach his second half-century of the match. The pair took the score to 259-2 by tea, extending the lead to 229. Hodge completed his century after the break, reaching the milestone off 142 balls with 11 fours and a six.
Hodge stated he was pleased to contribute to the team after failing to convert a start in the first Test in Dhaka. He noted that the West Indies would assess the conditions before deciding on a declaration, stating, "We just have to come tomorrow and assess ... play it by ear and keep going moment by moment."
Taijul Islam broke a 165-run partnership by dismissing Wickham for a career-best 78 off 107 balls. The West Indies were 284-3 at that point. Bangladesh also dropped Hodge off Nayeem Hasan on 117. Jangoo, who scored a century in the first innings, joined Hodge to push the lead beyond 300.
Bangladesh captain Towhid Hridoy expressed confidence that his team had a strong chance on the final day, noting the pitch remained good for batting. Hridoy said, "If we can get a good start, 350 is chaseable, in my opinion," but emphasized that the start is very important.
