AMC Theatres achieved its biggest sales haul ever for a three-month period, reaching $1.71 billion in total revenue for the quarter ending Sept. 30. This figure represents a 31.6% increase from the $1.30 billion reported a year earlier. The record surpassed the previous high of $1.60 billion set in the second quarter of 2026, which was driven by “Project Hail Mary” and “Michael.”

The company also reported a swing to a profit, with a net income of $109.3 million compared to a $298.2 million net loss in the third quarter of 2025. Earnings per share for the most recent quarter were 12 cents, following a loss of 58 cents in the prior-year quarter.

AMC CEO Adam Aron stated in a statement, “In recent years, where other key players in our industry collapsed, at AMC we repeatedly instead have talked about recovery. Today, we can finally say that AMC has recovered.” Aron thanked studio partners, lenders, business partners, employees, and shareholders for their support during a "long, and at times brutal, road." He noted that the goal was to "thrive," and that "is exactly and precisely where our focus now lies."

Aron attributed the success to the rising popularity of premium large formats, the A-List subscription service, and a resurgent box office. This summer was the best since COVID, with “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” becoming the third-highest grossing movie in history at $2.5 billion, and “The Odyssey” by Nolan reaching $1.8 billion.

Domestic theatrical revenue has already surpassed $8 billion, a milestone the industry did not reach until December of last year. Aron noted that with upcoming films like “Avengers: Doomsday,” “Dune: Part III,” and “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping,” this year will "easily be the biggest at the box office in post-pandemic times."

Concession sales also saw a boost as moviegoers were more likely to purchase popcorn and soda. Food and beverage revenue reached $589.5 million for the three-month period, up 30% from $451.8 million a year earlier. Ticket revenue rose to $954.5 million, a 33% increase from the $715.1 million reported a year earlier.

“Sometimes short but sweet is the best way to summarize performance,” Aron wrote. He added that the company expects the remaining film slate to propel the domestic and global box office to their highest full-year levels in seven years, stating, “We could not be more enthusiastic about AMC’s prospects as this year draws to a triumphant close.”
