Federal Constitutional Court dismisses LESCO appeal over Hamdard Laboratories billing dispute

The Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan dismissed an appeal from the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) on 29 October. In its ruling, the court upheld a previous judgment from the Lahore High Court that favoured Hamdard Laboratories regarding a dispute over average electricity billing.
Justice Aamer Farooq noted that the meter in question belonged to LESCO and stated that the consumer was never accused of tampering with the device. Counsel for LESCO argued that both the primary and back-up meters at the premises were faulty, which resulted in the average billing method.
The counsel for Hamdard Laboratories countered that an inquiry into the matter found the back-up meter to be working correctly. The representative for Hamdard Laboratories further explained that the back-up meter is designed to activate automatically if the front meter fails.
