The Lahore High Court (LHC) has imposed a Rs. 100,000 fine on a woman for filing a contempt petition against Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The order was issued during a hearing on Wednesday.
During the hearing, the woman, Ashba Kamran, questioned whether the Constitution of Pakistan and orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan were binding on everyone or only on ordinary citizens. She argued that paragraphs nine to 11 of a Supreme Court order had not been implemented and alleged that the court’s directions were being ignored.
Chief Justice Aalia Neelum reminded Kamran that she had approached the court in a contempt matter and asked her to provide the number of the petition on which her contempt application was based. The chief justice then questioned whether the petition number mentioned in the application was correct.
