PHMA urges government to adopt export-friendly policies for textile sector
The Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers Association (PHMA) urged the government to adopt export-friendly policies for the sector. The textile and apparel sector currently provides employment for approximately 1.5 million people.
Furthermore, this industry contributes about 8.5 percent to the nation's Gross Domestic Product. Over the last decade, apparel and textile exports have seen a rise of 44 percent.
Pakistan's textile exports grew from USD12.447 billion in the 2015-16 period to USD17.933 billion in the 2025-26 period. Knitwear and hosiery items represented roughly 28 percent of the total textile export group.
Leaders from the PHMA stated that 'Export policy and its implementation are the responsibility of the Federal Government, not the exporters.'
