Benjamin Netanyahu lost his governing majority in the Tuesday elections held in Israel. A 77.7% turnout was recorded during the vote, marking the highest participation since 1999.
With 70% of the votes counted, both Jewish blocs were certain to fall short of the 61 Knesset seats required for a majority government. Arab Israeli parties are heading toward a record result of 16-19 seats.
Yousef Jabareen stated, "We will be ready to pave the way to oust the government of Netanyahu, Ben-Gvir and Smotrich – and send them home." The Prime Minister has governed for 19 of the past 30 years, having held five elections between 2019 and 2022.
Netanyahu is currently wanted by the international criminal court for alleged war crimes, while Israel has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians since 7 October 2023. Yair Golan said, "We have no future here if we don’t stop being afraid. And if we don’t put an end to racism. We can no longer accept Netanyahu’s racist distinction between Jewish and Arab votes."
Donald Trump noted, "When the endorsement went out, it helped him a lot."
