Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Ayin-e-Pakistan (TTAP) Punjab has condemned the death of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Rawalpindi Cantonment Senior Vice President Ijaz Satti, who died in Punjab Police custody.
In a statement, Shayan Bashir, the Information Secretary of TTAP Punjab, alleged that Satti was taken from his home by Westridge police a few days ago and suffered a cardiac arrest while being shifted in a police vehicle.
Bashir stated that Satti’s body was left at DHQ Hospital Rawalpindi, and that an elderly man in poor health would not survive such a raid by the force meant to protect him.
The organization is demanding an independent judicial inquiry into the death, as well as the immediate release of the post-mortem report and unedited CCTV footage to Satti’s family.
Bashir also called for a public account of every minute Satti spent in state custody, emphasizing the need for transparency.
In a separate issue, TTAP has raised concerns over the Punjab chief minister’s use of a government aircraft for a private visit to London, describing it as a misuse of state resources.
Bashir alleged that the Punjab government had initially stated that the chief minister had paid for the trip herself, but a deposit of Rs27.19 million has now been announced by a party legislator on social media.
The organization demands that the challan and treasury receipt relating to the payment be made public and placed before the Punjab Assembly.
TTAP also seeks clarification from the provincial government about the rule under which a provincial aircraft was made available for a family occasion, questioning the public accounts given in less than two weeks.
