TikTok launched a new in-app restaurant guide called Must Eat on 28 October. The platform built the tool using 40 million posts, reviews, and comments from its community.
Users can search for nearby businesses on a map, leave reviews, and make reservations or place calls directly through the app. Adam Presser described the tool as "the compilation of all of the conversation that’s happening on the TikTok platform across creators, restaurateurs, [and] individuals."
The guide features two distinct category tabs for "everyday eats" and "elevated dining." Filters are available for users to sort results by distance, cuisine type, rating, and current opening status.
New York City, Los Angeles, and the Bay Area are the initial locations where the service is available. Restaurants are prohibited from paying to be featured in the recommendation lists.
Earlier this year, the company added functionality for booking hotels and attractions. TikTok Go previously enabled content creators to link and tag specific locations in their posts.
TikTok reported that 27 million US diners visited a restaurant, cafe, or shop for the first time because of the platform last year.
