Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has initiated a significant Rs14 billion citywide infrastructure programme aimed at the rehabilitation of 139 roads in various districts. Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab announced this ambitious project during a high-level review meeting held on Tuesday, attended by key officials including Financial Adviser Gulzar Ali Abro and Director General Technical Services Tariq Mughal.

The programme encompasses the reconstruction of major roads such as Kashmir Road, Nishtar Road, Johar Road, Siddiq Wahab Road, Hira Lal Road, and several others in industrial and commercial areas. Additionally, it includes improvements to drainage systems, replacement of water supply lines, and installation of modern street lighting to enhance urban mobility and civic infrastructure.

Mayor Wahab emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that these projects are not only about rebuilding roads but also restoring public confidence and improving municipal services. He highlighted that Karachi is entering a new era of development with this programme, which forms part of KMC’s broader strategy to modernize the city's infrastructure through planned investment and transparent implementation.

The Mayor directed all departments to ensure quality construction, transparency, and timely completion of every scheme. He also stated his personal oversight over both the procurement process and project execution, ensuring no compromise on quality or transparency. Every project will be completed according to the highest engineering standards within the stipulated timeframe.

KMC Director General Technical Services Tariq Mughal informed that tenders for civil works, including road rehabilitation, drainage improvement, water supply, and electrical infrastructure, have been completed in accordance with procurement rules. Work orders are expected to be issued shortly.

Financial Adviser KMC Gulzar Ali Abro mentioned that the programme covers major roads across all districts of Karachi, including Landhi, Korangi, Saddar, Central, Keamari, and other parts of the city. The development package also includes a large-scale street-lighting programme covering major corridors such as M.A. Jinnah Road, Shahrah-e-Liaquat, Shahrah-e-Ibn Sina, Sir Shah Suleman Road, Abul Hassan Isphani Road, Shahrah-e-Attar, Fatima Jinnah Road, SUPARCO Road, and other major thoroughfares.

The programme reflects KMC’s commitment to delivering sustainable infrastructure, improving drainage, enhancing road safety, and providing modern civic facilities. It is expected to play a key role in transforming Karachi into a cleaner, better-connected, and more livable metropolis.
