  • This development raises concerns over medical equipment quality in the province.

The Sindh Drug Testing Laboratory has announced that five IV infusion sets manufactured by various companies have been declared substandard. According to Adnan Rizvi, Director of the Drug Testing Laboratory, these samples did not meet the required standards set out under the Medical Devices Rules 2017.

Specifically, the tube length in all five IV drip sets was found to be non-compliant with prescribed specifications, and the materials used in their manufacture were also deemed substandard. The testing was conducted on samples collected from Noshehro Feroze and Karachi’s Malir area.

Dr Rizvi stated that these products have been declared substandard under the stringent regulations of the Medical Devices Rules 2017, which are designed to ensure the safety and efficacy of medical equipment in use. The laboratory has already forwarded its report to the concerned drug inspectors and the secretary of the provincial Quality Control Board.

This latest development comes amid growing concerns over the spread of HIV in Sindh, further highlighting the need for stringent quality control measures in healthcare facilities. Experts argue that substandard medical supplies can pose significant risks to patient safety and infection control practices.

The declaration underscores the importance of regular testing and adherence to regulatory standards in ensuring the quality of medical equipment used in hospitals and clinics across the province. It also serves as a reminder for manufacturers to maintain high standards in their production processes.
