Six women accuse former modelling agency boss of rape and human trafficking

Key Takeaways

  • Six foreign women, mostly American, filed legal complaints against Gerald Marie.
  • The allegations date back to the 1980s and 1990s, involving forced sexual relations and human trafficking.
  • Marie is accused of using his authority as head of a major modelling agency to abuse young women.

Six foreign women, mostly American, have filed legal complaints against Gerald Marie, the former European head of Elite, a renowned international modelling agency. The allegations, made public on Wednesday, detail incidents of rape and human trafficking that allegedly occurred in the 1980s and 1990s.

According to Mathias Darmon, the lawyer representing the plaintiffs, six women are involved, with two being new accusers. These women, now in their mid-forties to sixties, have come forward with allegations that Marie, currently in his mid-70s, abused them when they were minors.

One of the newly accused victims stated, 'Marie used his position and influence to force sexual relations upon me,' Darmon said. The lawyer further elaborated on the nature of the accusations: 'Marie is alleged to have, over several decades, used the authority, influence, and power conferred on him by his role to obtain forced sexual relations with numerous young women, some of whom were underage.'

The allegations against Marie are significant given his past involvement with high-profile models such as Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, and Cindy Crawford. Elite was known for its prominent presence in Paris and the fashion industry.

Darmon added that the complaints highlight similarities between the accusations made by the six plaintiffs. 'Their stories share commonalities,' he said, emphasizing the consistency of their testimonies.

The legal process has now been initiated, with Marie facing potential charges related to rape and human trafficking. The allegations have sparked renewed scrutiny on the practices within the modelling industry during that era.

This development comes at a time when the fashion world is increasingly under pressure to address historical misconduct and ensure ethical standards in its operations.

'Marie, then head of an international modelling agency with a major presence in Paris, is alleged to have, over several decades, used the authority, influence, and power conferred on him by his role to obtain forced sexual relations with numerous young women, some of whom were underage.'
