Pakistani boxer Abida Batool won the Women’s International Boxing Association (WIBA) world atomweight title after defeating Thailand’s Wandee Sinongkhrot in Pattaya.

The 26-year-old athlete became the first Pakistani woman to secure a WIBA world title.

The contest occurred at FCC Stadium during the “Brave Hearts” boxing event. Officials stopped the scheduled eight-round fight in the fifth round following an accidental headbutt that left Batool with a fractured nose. Two judges scored the match 50-45 and 49-48 in favour of Batool, while a third judge awarded the fight 48-47 to Sinongkhrot.

Batool prepared extensively in Islamabad for the competition. The boxer began her career in 2018 and previously won Pakistan’s national professional boxing title. She has also competed in kickboxing, wushu, and mixed martial arts.

During January, she attempted to win the WBC Asia atomweight title against Wisuta Sririttidet in Bangkok but failed.

Batool said, “This is just the beginning. I’m coming for more titles.”
