The newly inaugurated Pak-China Friendship Hospital in Islamabad has successfully delivered its first newborn baby after the medical team saved both the infant and his mother during a critical emergency. Hospital officials stated that the Gynecology Emergency Department responded quickly to the situation, providing the timely care necessary to ensure a safe delivery.
The family reported being happy with the successful treatment. Meanwhile, citizens across the country have expressed appreciation for the new modern healthcare facility and the government's initiative to offer free medical services to the public.
The hospital was formally inaugurated on October 27, 2026. Located in Chak Shahzad, the facility was renamed Pak-China Friendship Hospital to recognize China’s support. The site covers approximately 40 kanals and features modern wards and laboratories. It is managed by the Indus Hospital and Health Network under a public-private partnership arrangement.
The site originally served as a temporary healthcare facility in 2020. It was constructed in about 40 days by the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) with support from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the National Institute of Health (NIH). The facility was previously known as Margalla Hospital and later the Islamabad Health and Medical Complex.
Following cabinet approval, agreements for the hospital and a Regional Blood Centre were signed on July 31, 2026. Under this management deal, the hospital is intended to provide free-of-cost healthcare services to residents of Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
