Serbian police shoot dead man following terrorist attack in Belgrade

Authorities described the incident as a terrorist attack. Ivica Dacic stated the attacker rushed at a police officer with two knives while shouting "Allahu Akbar".
The officer sustained a minor knife wound to the face but did not require hospital care. Dacic identified the suspect as a Serbian citizen and a minor.
Security services had been monitoring the suspect because he was known to be a supporter of the Islamic State. Dacic raised the country's terrorism threat level to "red alert" following the violence.
Israel's foreign ministry confirmed that no embassy personnel were injured because the mission was closed at the time. A similar incident occurred in June 2024 when a man who had converted to Islam shot a police officer in the neck with a crossbow.
The officer who was shot in June 2024 survived and shot dead the assailant.
