Pakistan internet users face slower speeds due to submarine cable maintenance

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) announced that internet users in the country may experience reduced connection speeds during peak hours. Emergency maintenance work began on 27 October on the AAE-1 international submarine cable.
The repairs are focused on the specific section of the cable situated between France and Italy. These slower speeds are expected to persist until 2 November 2026.
Spanning approximately 25,000 kilometres, the AAE-1 system links South East Asia to Europe via Egypt and makes landfall in Karachi, Pakistan. The cable provides a connection between Pakistan and Europe through landing points in Greece, Italy, and France.
PTCL has operated its Pakistan services since it commissioned the operations in 2017. A previous fault on the AAE-1 near Qatar in January 2025 resulted in sluggish internet for nearly two weeks.
