The relief package, announced for the residents of Rawalpindi Cantonment, includes significant tax reductions and infrastructure improvements, according to Dawn.
House, water, and sanitation taxes have been slashed, with the residential house tax hike curtailed from 30 per cent to 20 per cent, and three easy installments permitted for tax payments.
Furthermore, the government has waived surcharges on past arrears under the Amendment Act 2023, providing relief to residents who may have fallen behind in their payments.
A major water supply project is also in the works, with 15 million gallons per day (MGD) of water to be supplied from the Daducha Dam, backed by a Rs100 million grant to shift tubewells and water storage facilities to solar power.
The package was the result of successful negotiations between public representatives and a high-level committee of the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB), as reported by Dawn.
Addressing a press conference, Chairman of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Cabinet Division Malik Ibrar Ahmed expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, and Field Marshal Asim Munir for their efforts in initiating the projects.
The package also includes the completion of the Charing Cross and Qasim Market underpasses in NA-55, which will convert the Rawat-to-Tarnol route into a signal-free corridor, enhancing connectivity and reducing travel time.
