Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi told the National Assembly on 29 October that political leaders must set aside personal interests to unite under the national flag. Abbasi stated that the country belongs to every Pakistani, especially those who sacrificed their lives for its sovereignty and security.
He argued that political differences or dissatisfaction over being denied power should not be used as reasons to undermine national unity or criticise Pakistan. The minister noted that the nation belongs to those who shed blood for its protection rather than those who have accumulated wealth and enjoyed privileges.
Military personnel are currently deployed in difficult mountainous regions, specifically in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Abbasi said no amount of money or salary can compensate families for the loss of loved ones killed in the line of duty.
He criticised political leaders for enjoying the comforts of their homes and Parliament while questioning the sacrifices of security personnel fighting terrorism in harsh terrain. The armed forces represent all communities, including Baloch, Kashmiris, Sindhis, Punjabis, Seraikis and Pashtuns, according to the minister.
Police personnel confronting terrorism deserve the same recognition and respect for their sacrifices. Abbasi added that police officers have families, including children and parents, and their lives should not be risked for political considerations.
Provincial police will continue to confront terrorists. The minister denied that Pakistan is facing a situation where its unity or territorial integrity is under threat.
He warned that no one should assume the country can be weakened through political pressure or statements against its institutions. Those who do not accept the constitutional and legal framework of Pakistan should be dealt with in accordance with the law.
Pakistan has achieved significant successes in foreign policy and strengthened its international standing. The leadership is engaging with major powers across different regions, including China, Russia, the United States, the Middle East, Central Asia and Europe.
International engagements involving Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif are ongoing. Abbasi concluded that the country should not be portrayed as isolated.
