
US acknowledges Pakistan’s role in dialogue with Iran: US State Department
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has praised Pakistan’s role as a mediator in stability in the region and dialogue with Iran.
The US State Department has issued a statement on the meeting of Pak-US foreign ministers, according to which Foreign Minister Marco Rubio appreciated the positive role of Pakistan. He said that Pakistan’s role as a mediator in the dialogue with Iran was commendable and Pakistan had played an important role in maintaining peace in the region.
A US State Department spokeswoman said the meeting between Ishaq Dar and Marco Rubio discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation to fight terrorism. A joint strategy against ISIS Khorasan was also discussed. There will also be Pak-US counter-terrorism talks in Islamabad in August.
The meeting of foreign ministers stressed the importance of enhancing trade relations between Pakistan and the United States. The Dar-Rubio meeting also discussed the possibilities of cooperation in the field of minerals and mining.
It may be recalled that yesterday, Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, where various issues were discussed.
After the meeting, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said that Pakistan wanted to trade with the US, not aid, and the trade agreement with the US would be finalized in the next few weeks. Pakistan also wants to talk to India on all issues including occupied Jammu and Kashmir. We are also ready to talk on terrorism.
Earlier, Pakistani Foreign Office spokesman said that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio acknowledged Pakistan’s lasting sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and said that Pakistan has always played a positive role in terms of global and regional peace.
