US President Trump’s impeachment attempt in the House fails
An attempt to impeach President Trump for pushing the United States into a war with Iran without Congressional approval was foiled.
The impeachment motion against President Trump was filed by Democrat Congressman All Green, claiming that Trump abused presidential powers to attack Iran.
Even Democrats themselves appeared divided on the Texas lawmaker’s resolution to introduce the motion. Several Democratic members criticized President Trump, but the majority did not support impeachment.
As a result, the impeachment resolution was rejected by 79 votes to 344. 128 Democrats also sided with Republicans, so that the resolution could not be tabled.
Presenting the resolution, Congressman All Green said he was not happy with the move, but no one individual should have the power to rule over 300 million people. He said that joining the war without the approval of Congress was an affront to the Constitution.
All Green said he took the step because the decision must now be made on whether the Constitution has a meaning or has become meaningless.
The All Greens are among the strongest opponents of President Trump and believe that Donald Trump is leading the United States towards authoritarianism. He sought impeachment thinking that history would record that White House actions were overseen by at least one member of Congress.
