She emphasized that the IMF and World Bank are also working to encourage greater private-sector investment and improve liability management operations, which are essential for sustainable economic growth.

Georgieva outlined three broad areas for dealing with debt challenges in developing countries. The first involves countries with unsustainable debt, the second focuses on countries with sustainable debt that are implementing reforms to boost economic growth, and the third area involves maintaining sound economic fundamentals, including stronger debt transparency and relations between governments and investors.

Specifically, Pakistan was mentioned as a country under the second category, where reforms are being implemented to address debt challenges and boost economic growth.

The IMF chief’s comments come at a time when Pakistan is facing significant economic challenges, including high inflation and a growing fiscal deficit, but she remains optimistic about the country’s progress.

In her remarks, Georgieva stressed the importance of continued cooperation between the IMF, the World Bank, and the Pakistani government to ensure the success of ongoing economic reforms.

Together with the World Bank, we have strengthened support for countries on reform implementation and domestic resource mobilization.
