Students and teachers prepare for the new school week in Sindh province.

Key Takeaways

  • Sindh School Education and Literacy Department withdraws six-day working week directive.
  • Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah approves the new five-day schedule.
  • Notification applies uniformly to all public and private educational institutions.

The Sindh School Education and Literacy Department has withdrawn its earlier directive for a six-day school week, instead ordering all public and private educational institutions in the province to observe a standard five-day working week from Monday to Friday. This decision was made with the approval of Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday, this new order supersedes previous directives that had caused confusion. On July 29, the department initially directed all public and private institutions to observe a six-day working week starting August 1. However, it later clarified that private schools could set their own schedules according to their convenience, while public schools continued with the six-day schedule.

The latest notification issued by the Section Officer (A&T) with the approval of the competent authority applies uniformly to all schools under the administrative control of the department—both government and privately managed. It marks a further reversal from earlier positions taken by the department.

While the working hours for single-shift and double-shift schools will be issued separately, the circular emphasizes that this new five-day schedule is now in effect until further notice. Copies of the notification have been forwarded to the Governor’s office, Chief Minister’s office, Chief Secretary, and multiple education department directorates, with instructions to circulate it among public and private institutions for implementation.

The decision aims to provide clarity and consistency across all educational institutions in Sindh province, ensuring a standardized approach to school schedules. The move is expected to reduce confusion and streamline administrative processes.
