Sardar Masood Khan spoke at the launch of the book Ukraine War: Beyond the Headlines, authored by Munir Ahmed, on 30 October.

Khan advocated for a political settlement to conclude the war through sustained diplomatic efforts and credible security arrangements. He stated that any enduring peace must safeguard the sovereignty of Ukraine while addressing the legitimate concerns of all involved parties. The conflict has created far-reaching consequences for the global economy, security, and politics.

Khan noted that meaningful diplomacy requires an understanding of Moscow’s strategic perspective. He added that a lasting agreement must also protect the security of Ukraine and the concerns of other European nations. The speaker called for the humane treatment of prisoners of war, civilian protection, and the safety of nuclear facilities.

Khan urged major powers to maintain communication and exercise restraint to reduce the risk of escalation. He suggested that building confidence for broader negotiations could be achieved through prisoner exchanges, humanitarian agreements, and the restoration of commercial maritime traffic. The United Nations, China, Türkiye, and other nations in contact with the parties could facilitate these efforts.

Khan highlighted that disruptions to energy, fertiliser, grain, and maritime supplies are affecting developing countries, including Pakistan. He called for expanded cooperation in areas such as pharmaceuticals, agriculture, technology, research, and regional connectivity. The diplomat suggested that bilateral ties could be strengthened through cultural exchanges, educational programs, and commercially viable trade corridors through Central Asia.

Khan expressed his hope for a new phase of enhanced cooperation between Pakistan and Russia.
