Meta launched a new artificial intelligence application called Waddle World for mobile users in the Philippines. The platform enables people to raise a virtual pet, engage in interactions, and share personal details about their daily lives.

A 16-bit pixel-style environment defines the visual aesthetic of the app. Artificial intelligence powers the experience by learning about users through their specific interactions.

Conversations between the user and the pet are converted into journal entries featuring small illustrations, written from the pet's point of view. Weekly emails are sent to users to summarise what the virtual pet has learned about them.

Players are not required to maintain daily login streaks or pursue high scores within the app. The application is intended for adults aged 18 and older.

Users in the Philippines can download the app for free from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Meta has not announced a timeline for launching the service in other countries.

Previous Meta releases include Pocket, which allows for AI-driven game creation, and Vibes, an app for generating AI videos. The company has also been developing a physical device styled like a Tamagotchi that runs on Muse AI technology.

Meta has not confirmed if Waddle World is connected to the Tamagotchi-style physical device project. While Character.AI and OpenAI have faced lawsuits alleging their products harmed teenagers, Meta has not stated if such concerns influenced the design of Waddle World.
