Huawei's AI work agent, Xiaoyi Work, has become the first product to offer openPangu-2.1-Pro, a new version of the company's open Pangu model family. IT Home reported this on November 5 following hands-on testing, noting that the model is labeled within the app as offering HarmonyOS task enhancement.
The introduction of this model follows a transition in Huawei's cloud services. On November 1, Huawei Cloud announced that its MaaS model-as-a-service platform would stop selling openPangu-2.0-Flash and openPangu-2.0-Pro on November 6, with both models scheduled to go offline at midnight on November 30. At that time, Huawei stated that new openPangu models were being planned for a gradual rollout.
Huawei has not published specific details regarding openPangu-2.1-Pro. There is no public information available concerning its parameter count, active parameters, context length, or training data, and the model has not been formally released. IT Home concluded that the model is very new and currently only available inside Xiaoyi Work. For comparison, the previous openPangu-2.0-Pro model featured 505 billion total parameters, 180 billion sparsely activated parameters, and a 512K context window, and was trained entirely on Ascend NPUs.
Xiaoyi Work functions as an AI assistant for coding, creative tasks, and office work across HarmonyOS phones, tablets, and PCs, including a Windows client. The system allows users to provide a goal which the agent then breaks into steps, calling tools to carry out the work while showing progress and leaving key checkpoints for user review. Tasks can run on a local computer or a cloud PC, and a phone can monitor a task running on a connected PC.
According to a review by InfoQ China, the product was developed jointly by Huawei's Xiaoyi device team and the openJiuwen open-source agent community. The service is currently in beta and requires payment. New users receive 1,000 AI points free for 31 days; thereafter, an entry plan costs 49 yuan per month on a recurring basis, while a standard plan costs 199 yuan per month. Supported scenarios include data analysis, market research, document processing, slide creation, content creation, and code development.
While the first openPangu-2.1 model has appeared inside an agent product rather than a cloud model marketplace, its stated focus is on agent tasks for HarmonyOS devices. Huawei has not stated when openPangu-2.1-Pro will be formally released or if it will be offered on the Huawei Cloud MaaS platform.
