Foreign Investors Repatriate .26 Billion in Profits from Pakistan

Key Takeaways

  • Foreign investors repatriated $2.26 billion in profits and dividends during FY26.
  • Profit and dividend outflows increased by 1.6 percent year-on-year.
  • Financial businesses recorded the largest outflows at $534.5 million.

Foreign investors repatriated a total of $2.26 billion in profits and dividends from Pakistan during fiscal year 2025-26, marking an increase of 1.6 percent compared to the previous year. According to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan, this figure represents a significant movement of capital out of the country.

In June alone, foreign companies repatriated $151.4 million, which is a 32.6 percent increase from the same period last year and a staggering 211 percent higher than in May 2026. This surge in repatriation suggests heightened investor activity during this month.

Sector-wise analysis reveals that financial businesses led the outflows with $534.5 million, followed closely by the power sector at $507.7 million and the food sector at $200.5 million. These figures highlight the diverse impact of foreign investment on various sectors within Pakistan’s economy.

The data also indicates that while overall repatriation increased, there were notable fluctuations between months. For instance, May 2026 saw significantly lower outflows compared to June, suggesting a potential seasonal or strategic pattern in investor behavior.

State Bank of Pakistan officials stated, 'The increase in profit and dividend repatriations reflects the ongoing interest from foreign investors in our financial markets and sectors.' This statement underscores the continued engagement of international capital in Pakistan’s economic activities.
