On directives from Gilgit-Baltistan’s Chief Secretary Arshad Majeed Mohmand, the district administration has initiated a special cleanliness drive. The campaign is aimed at protecting key tourist destinations in Diamer, particularly Fairy Meadows and Babusar Top, as well as adjoining environmentally sensitive valleys.

According to Sultan Shoaib of Associated Press Of Pakistan, this move comes in response to the significant increase in tourists visiting these areas. The influx has raised concerns about potential environmental degradation due to increased vehicular traffic and waste generation.

The comprehensive cleanliness campaign includes measures such as setting up more garbage collection points, increasing the frequency of clean-up operations, and sensitizing local communities and visitors about the importance of maintaining a clean environment.

Chief Secretary Mohmand emphasized the need for collective effort from all stakeholders to ensure that these natural wonders remain pristine. He stated, 'We must work together to preserve our heritage and protect these areas for future generations.'

The campaign also involves collaboration with local NGOs and community groups who will be involved in organizing clean-up drives and awareness campaigns.

Local residents have welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that it will help maintain the natural beauty of their region. One resident, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, 'We are glad to see such a proactive step being taken. It’s important for us to keep our environment clean.'

The district administration has also announced plans to install more public toilets and improve waste management facilities in these areas to further support the cleanliness drive.

While the exact duration of the campaign is not specified, officials have assured that it will be a sustained effort. They believe that such initiatives are crucial for sustainable tourism development in Gilgit-Baltistan.

'We must work together to preserve our heritage and protect these areas for future generations.'
