Iran Launches Widespread Missile Attacks on US Bases, Oil Prices Surge

Key Takeaways

  • Iran conducted missile attacks on multiple US military bases in the region.
  • Oil prices rose to near $90 per barrel following the attacks.
  • An Iranian official warned of a broader offensive if US attacks continue.

In a surprise move, Iran launched a series of missile strikes against United States military installations across the Middle East in response to what it termed as targeted bombardment of its infrastructure. The attacks hit several key locations including the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, which hosts US troops and aircraft.

According to reports, large areas of the base were engulfed in flames, with significant damage reported to soldiers' barracks and fuel storage facilities. This extensive destruction underscores the intensity and scale of Iran's retaliatory measures.

The attacks come after a day when oil prices had been trading below $75 per barrel but surged rapidly following news of the missile strikes. Analysts predict that if tensions escalate further, Brent crude could reach $100 per barrel again.

A senior Iranian official, Mohsen Rezaee, warned that Iran would abandon its restrained response and move towards a complete offensive and total destruction if US attacks persist. His statement was made through an official channel, indicating the seriousness of the situation.

Rezaee’s warning came with a direct quote: 'دیگر به مقابله به مثل قانع نیستیم؛ اگر آمریکا حملات خود را ادامه دهد، به سمت تهاجم کامل و نابودی خواهیم رفت.' This translates to: 'We are no longer satisfied with reciprocal retaliation. If the United States continues its attacks, we will move toward a complete offensive and total destruction.'

The strikes on US bases have raised concerns about potential escalation in regional tensions. Analysts suggest that such actions could lead to increased military presence and heightened security measures across the region.

While no casualties or specific damage reports were immediately available from the affected areas, the scale of the attacks suggests significant disruption to operations at these bases. The United States has not yet commented on the extent of the damage or its response plans.
