LDA Seeks FIRs Against Developers of Two Lahore Housing Schemes

Key Takeaways

  • The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has filed FIRs against the owners and developers of two private housing schemes.
  • Allegations include failure to resolve sewerage issues and illegal construction.
  • Chief Metropolitan Planner Riaz Hussain Goraya confirmed the applications have been sent to police.

The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has taken legal action against two private housing schemes in Lahore, seeking the registration of FIRs against their owners, sponsors, and developers. According to official letters sent to Green Town Police Station, both schemes are alleged to have violated multiple rules set by the LDA.

One case involves a housing society near Block D/2, IEP Town Sector A on Defence Road. The LDA stated that despite receiving repeated notices, the management of this society ignored efforts to improve its sewerage system. In another instance, the authority sought an FIR against the management of a nearby private land subdivision for failing to address similar issues.

The second case also highlights illegal construction practices, as the subdivision allegedly carried out an unauthorized extension by constructing a boundary wall that encroached on land reserved for public use. Additionally, it is alleged that this subdivision had not been approved by the competent authority before proceeding with development.

Chief Metropolitan Planner Riaz Hussain Goraya confirmed to The News that applications have indeed been sent to the police. He stated that LDA rules require FIRs against the owner, sponsor, and developer of any scheme found in violation of regulations.

MNA Tariq Bashir Cheema, who owns the land from which these schemes were developed, was not directly named but his involvement is implied. When contacted by The News, Cheema expressed unawareness of the applications but confirmed that he had handed over the land to a developer and that discussions are ongoing regarding the sewerage system.

The LDA has been particularly stringent in its enforcement efforts, aiming to ensure compliance with the LDA Act, 1975, and the LDA Private Housing Scheme Rules, 2014. These rules mandate proper sewage disposal systems and prevent unauthorized construction practices that could compromise public infrastructure.

Local residents have expressed concerns over the lack of adequate sewerage facilities in these schemes, highlighting the need for better regulation and enforcement by authorities. The move by the LDA is seen as a step towards maintaining standards and ensuring sustainable development within Lahore’s housing sector.
