The Sindh Transport and Mass Transit Department has submitted a summary to the provincial cabinet for the purchase of 500 electric buses, as part of the government’s plan to modernize public transport in the province.
Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, who oversees Information, Transport and Mass Transit, stated that the new electric buses will be introduced in phases across various cities.
Memon emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that modern public transport facilities are not limited to Karachi and that the People’s Bus Service is being expanded to other parts of the province.
The introduction of these buses is expected to provide citizens with affordable, reliable, and improved transport facilities, he added.
According to Memon, 50 double-decker buses are expected to arrive in Sindh by November 30 and will be deployed on different routes.
He noted that the launch of the People’s Bus Service in Qambar-Shahdadkot has received a positive response, with residents of Larkana, Qambar, Shahdadkot, and adjoining areas appreciating the modern bus service.
The electric bus project is seen as an important addition to Sindh’s public transport infrastructure and will help address growing mobility challenges in urban areas, Memon said.
The government is committed to ensuring that modern public transport facilities are not confined to Karachi and that the People’s Bus Service is being progressively expanded to other parts of the province, he added.
