A documentary titled The Last First: Winter K2, which covers the 2021 winter expedition on K2, has been released globally. The film documents the first-ever winter ascent of K2 by a ten-member Nepali expedition, which included Nirmal Purja.

Mohammad Ali Sadpara, John Snorri of Iceland, and Juan Pablo Mohr Prieto of Chile died while attempting the initial winter climb of K2. Amir Bar-Lev directed the documentary.

Sajid Ali Sadpara confirmed that the film utilizes actual footage and shooting conducted at the location. The documentary explores the themes of people, power, and ambition inherent in modern mountaineering.

Sadpara stated that he survived the incident and subsequently searched for bodies above 8,000 metres on K2, locating and interring them five months after the tragedy. International recognition for the film arrived at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival in the US, according to Sadpara.

Stephanie Jensen praised the film on Facebook, describing it as an “insane story” that illustrates how commercialisation influenced the K2 attempt. Viewers can stream the film on Apple TV beginning on 2 October.
