HBO is developing a limited series based on the story of The Birds, featuring Sarah Snook in the lead role. The production draws inspiration from the 1952 novella by Daphne du Maurier and the classic 1963 film directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

Tom Spezialy wrote the pilot script and will serve as an executive producer for the project. David Heyman and Danny Samit will provide executive production for Heyday Television.

Sarah Snook will also take on an executive producer role alongside Jennifer Gabler Rawlings. Universal Global Television will co-produce the series with HBO.

Rights to the property are held by the du Maurier estate and Universal Pictures. Spezialy previously worked on the HBO series Watchmen and The Leftovers.

Heyman is currently an executive producer on the HBO Harry Potter series, which premieres its first season this Christmas. Snook gained recognition for her four-season run in Succession, which earned her one Emmy win, three nominations, and two Golden Globe awards.

She also appeared in the Peacock series All Her Fault, for which she received an Emmy nomination.
