You Can See Everything will not compete for the Directors Guild of America Awards top prize this season. The DGA classifies the film as a documentary, which excludes it from the theatrical feature film award category according to the guild's rule book.
A24 and several awards strategists attempted to bypass this classification to enter the feature film category. The 174-minute production premiered in cinemas on 16 October.
The studio and its strategists are continuing discussions with BAFTA, SAG-AFTRA, and the Golden Globes regarding the proper classification of the work. The film will be submitted for best picture and best documentary feature at the 99th Academy Awards.
Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim are nominated for best picture and director, while Amanda Seyfried is listed for supporting actress. Christopher Abbott is listed for supporting actor, and Alex DiGerlando and Rebecca Meis are listed for production design.
David Bolen is listed for cinematography, and Katina Danabassis is listed for costume design. Adam Locke-Norton is listed for film editing, while Stephanie Pasicov and Kerrie Smith are listed for makeup and hairstyling.
Paul Hsu and Richard Carlos are listed for sound, and Ari Balouzian is listed for original score. Nominations for the 79th annual DGA Awards will be announced in January.
The DGA winner has failed to win the Oscar for best director only 8 times in the guild's history.
