Lawyers representing Disney accused Trump officials of committing 'blatant violations' of the US constitution. ABC filed a lawsuit against the FCC in August.
ABC argued that the FCC's actions were designed to limit the network's speech. Beth Wilkinson stated that the actions constituted 'blatant violations of the US constitution'.
Furthermore, Wilkinson claimed that ABC faced a 'chilling effect' impacting its editorial decisions. The network subsequently ceased booking politicians on its daytime talkshow, The View.
In a related development, ABC aired a July speech given by Trump on its streaming platform. Dimitar P Georgiev asserted that the US district court for the District of Columbia lacked proper jurisdiction for the case.
Georgiev also contended that the license renewal process functions as a 'tool' to speed up reviews concerning potential breaches of federal equal opportunities regulations. Judge AliKhan questioned the FCC's timing, asking why the commission waited until summer to determine responses were inadequate.
The judge also questioned the necessity of the commission requiring simultaneous renewal applications for all eight stations. Ultimately, the judge concluded the hearing without issuing an order, taking the matter 'under advisement'.
