A significant power outage at the Dhabeji pumping station on Sunday has disrupted water supply to several areas in Karachi, according to the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC).
The incident, which affected 10 of the 21 pumps, resulted in an estimated shortage of 150 million gallons of water in the city.
The power supply to the Third Phase, Fourth Phase, and K-III pump houses was suspended around 6 a.m. due to a fault in the main electricity cable supplying the pumping station.
The affected areas include Landhi, Korangi, Shah Faisal, Malir, Gulshan, Jinnah Town, Lyari, Saddar, North Karachi, and New Karachi.
K-Electric informed the water utility that the disruption was caused by a cable fault. The KWSC administration remained in contact with K-Electric to ensure the early restoration of power at the pumping station.
A spokesperson for KWSC stated that the affected pumps would be restored immediately after electricity was resumed, and emergency measures would be taken to normalise water supplies across the city.
The spokesperson added that the administration is working closely with K-Electric to address the issue and minimise the impact on the city's water supply.
